Live SOW Teardown
Tearing Down a Real SOW: Where Scope, Margin, and Risk Break Down
Most Statements of Work look fine when the deal closes. The issues show up later—once delivery starts, assumptions get questioned, and the effort turns out to be less clear than everyone thought.
What You'll Learn
Join us as we tear down a typical Statement of Work—the kind that gets approved in a sales cycle and looks fine at first glance.
We'll walk through the document the way experienced services teams do, stopping at the lines where scope starts to get fuzzy, effort becomes unclear, or risk shifts to the delivery team.
In the session, you will see:
-
The small line items in SOWs that often create the biggest delivery problems
-
Where effort descriptions tend to hide risk for the team doing the work
-
The moment in many SOWs where margins erode
-
How experienced services teams read a scope differently than everyone else in the room
By the end, you'll have a clearer sense of what strong scoping actually looks like—and why small details matter more than most teams realize.
About the Speaker
Jon Scott
Co-Founder & CEO, ScopeStack
Jon Scott is the co-founder and CEO of ScopeStack. Before starting the company, he spent years working as a solution architect at Dimension Data, where part of the job was turning complex technical work into scopes that sales teams could sell and delivery teams could execute.
Along the way, he saw the same problems again and again: missing assumptions, vague effort, and SOWs that looked clear until the project actually started. That experience eventually led to ScopeStack.
Today, Jon works with services organizations around the world that want more consistency, clarity, and confidence in how they scope and price their services.
